About the Role
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day manufacturing operations, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and employee engagement within assigned production areas. This position plays a critical role in meeting customer commitments, optimizing resources, and driving continuous improvement across processes and teams.
Key Responsibilities
Production Supervision
- Plan and direct daily production activities for railcar refurbishment, overhaul, and modification projects, schedules, staffing and priorities to meet delivery and quality targets.
- Monitor progress against established goals, identifying variances and developing recovery plans for schedule, cost, and quality performance.
- Ensure efficient use of manpower, machines, and equipment while maintaining a high standard of product quality.
- Coordinate production activities with cross-functional teams such as Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Warehouse.
- Enforce all safety protocols and ensure employees are properly trained and certified.
- Conduct regular safety audits, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and drive compliance with 5S principles.
- Promote a culture of zero incidents through proactive hazard identification and corrective actions.
- Supervise, coach, and develop production staff to achieve individual and team performance goals.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations in coordination with HR, providing constructive feedback and development plans.
- Foster a positive, motivated, and collaborative work environment that supports employee engagement and retention.
- Partner with Methods, Engineering, and Quality teams to enhance process efficiency, work cell optimization, and overall throughput.
- Lead daily production meetings to review safety, quality, material availability, and improvement opportunities.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity, reduce waste, and strengthen quality.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, efficiency, and labor utilization.
- Review and approve employee time reports to ensure accurate project and cost tracking.
- Support long-term production planning and capacity forecasting.
- High school diploma required; Associate or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or Business preferred.
- 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a rail equipment manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of production processes, quality standards, and ERP or manufacturing software systems.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing production needs.
- Ensure all safety, quality, and productivity targets are met or exceeded.
- Maintain an organized and efficient work area in compliance with company standards.
- Demonstrate visible leadership presence on the production floor.
- Support a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
- Salary range - $80,000 - $115,000, commensurate with experience
